Ryanair’s plan to increase the charge for printing boarding cards in the airport to €100 has proved a boon for an Irish internet company which is offering the same service for less than €1.
Surfbox, based in Kilkenny, says 100 Ryanair passengers a day are printing off their boarding cards at its kiosks in Dublin airport, which were installed three months ago. The company has now opened kiosks in Cork, Shannon and Liverpool airports.
The estimated loss in ancillary revenue to Ryanair stands at about €117,000 per month. Brilliant! Keep up the good work Surfbox!
I love this story! Surfbox should also open in Stansted. I stayed at the Radisson in Stansted recently and noticed that even they were getting in on the game and charging £10 to the general public for a print out from the net. The only issue with this is that the check in for Ryanair closes 4 hours before the flight and so this is no good for most travellers who never turn up to the airport more than 4 hours before a flight. Ryanir are fully aware of this, hence the 4 hour rule – just another one of their dirty tricks…….
Yes, it is a complete con of the worst kind. There is absolutely no reason why Ryanair can’t check you in on the basis of the details on your passport, since all the details you would print off on a boarding pass are already in the system. Then to close check-in 4 hours before departure – why? what is the reason other than to deliberately play games with people? Then they charge £40 to check you in. Why? On what basis? The procedure to give you a borading pass takes about 2 mins – bit of an unreasonable charge don’t you think?
So now we see they are making 120,000 euro per month by catching people out this way AT JUST ONE AIRPORT!!!!!
Imagine how much money they are making at each check-in they have all over Europe!
Now we can see how they can offer cheap flights and be profitable – by deliberately cheating a significant percentage of everyone taking their flights! Imagine how expensive they would be if they weren’t playing these games.
Time the passengers and the proper airlines got together to bring an action for unfair trading against this diseased company and put it out of business before it does any more damage.
its 1 euro u poverty stricken knobs
Hi again Ronan,
Quite what your point is here is beyond us. Yes, Surfbox charge 1 euro. We have stated that above. Ryanair however charge considerably more.
We’d also like to know which department at Ryanair you work for? You seem to have a slight bias in your comments (of which dear readers there are many that have not been approved for publication).
Oh and please Ronan try to refrain from insults. You Ryanair staff all come across in the same disgraceful manner.
